Del.icio.us: A tool for organizing information for distribution to students

With so much information available to instructors and students, a tool such as del.icio.us is extremely valuable in sorting and sharing information on the Internet.  I can see this being extremely useful in some of my online courses as I develop a centralized repository for my courses that students can update with new links, articles, websites, information, etc.

For example, in exploring the tool, I created my own del.icio.us listing with personal, professional, and academic links.

By bundling the tags, I can create clusters or categories of information that could be shared with my students.  With each class, I can update it by adding, deleting, or modifying links so that my students receive the most current and active information related to their course of study.

Additionally, I created a bundled listing of websites and blogs that I "bookmarked" in order to return to them as they are related to eLearning (see image at right).  I can continue to add more links to this list for my own professional use at Centenary College as well as my own academic use as a doctoral student at TUI University.

By using this Web 2.0 technology for my own use, I will find additional uses for incorporating into my online courses at Centenary College.  I see this tool as being extremely useful in organizing and disseminating information.
