Del.icio.us (pronounced as "delicious") is a social bookmarking web service for storing, sharing, and discovering web bookmarks. The site was founded by Joshua Schachter in late 2003, and was acquired by Yahoo! in 2005. Now it has more than three million users and 100 million bookmarked URLs.[1]

Setting Up My del.icio.us Page

First, let me say that in creating this page in the wiki, I had to omit the periods in the word del.icio.us!  I tried to be true to the actual spelling of the Web 2.0 application, but the PB Wiki would not let me name a new page with periods.  Hence, you will see del.icio.us spelled delicious in a few places!  Perhaps there is some trick I am not aware of for using punctuation when naming a page.  If this is the case, please feel free to edit my page and tell us how you did it!

My Uses of del.icio.us

  • I have found social bookmarking to be an efficient way to have my bookmarks and favorites at my finger tips no matter what computer I am using.  I still need to get in the habit of logging in to del.icio.us when I sit down at one of the several computers I use throughout the week.  This has been my biggest challenge in integrating del.icio.us into my daily computer use.

  • I have used del.icio.us when doing research with other colleagues.  Once you have created a del.icio.us account, there is a feature that allows you create a network with other del.icio.us users.  Creating the network allows me to easily access the bookmarks my colleagues have collected.  Below you can see my network.  I even have a few fans!  ;)

  • Doing a standard search for a particular topic also allows me to see what links are being most frequently bookmarked.  For example, in the image below, you will see that 27 people bookmarked the Iron Horse Entertainment Group link.  It is highlighted in pink.
